Queenstown Otago New Zealand

Greg was first introduced to the postures of yoga as a small child watching his mother do ‘a bit ‘of yoga on the floor of a night time.

Greg never imagined he would one day be teaching this ageless discipline.
Both his parents were active and health conscious – his father was an international level competitive runner (and still runs 4km 2-3 times per week at age 76!). His mother would also slip in the occasional verse from Kahil Gibran’s ‘The Prophet’ and thus plant the seed for a deep philosophical interest in later life.

After leaving college Greg worked as a personal trainer at the prestigious Riverside Health clubin London. He was there for 6 years during which time he was studying for his diploma in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
He began his yoga training in earnest in 1994 after the completion of his acupuncture studies. Introduced to asana practice by Keith Hodiak, Greg was strongly influenced by his ‘steady and graceful’ approach to yoga postures.

Further study around the world followed, including a teacher training course in Ved Niketed Dam Ashram in Rishikesh, India and the Sunra teacher training course in London and Europe.
Qualifying as a teacher in 1998, Greg began teaching across London privately, in church halls and at Holmes Place and LA Fitness. After moving to Sydney in 2004 he worked at Livingwell, Fitness First and privately. In 2008 Greg moved his family to Queenstown, New Zealand.

Greg has studied two classical yoga styles in depth.
Sivananda – a North Indian style focussing on breath, static postures and relaxation.
Astanga Vinyasa – a dynamic South Indian style focussing on body alignment, strength with flexibility and flowing movements. In addition he has studied a wide range of other styles (Iyengar, Power, Anasara), taking classes wherever he is in the world and teaches a synthesis of all these influences.
Greg’s classes focus on steady movement, internal focus, correct alignment and safety, with a lot of smiles and humour thrown in for good measure.
Greg’s teaching is influenced heavily by his 25year martial arts background (Wing Chun Kung Fu, Aikido, Jiu Jitsu), acupuncture/Chinese Medicine training (please see the ‘acupuncture’ section for a more in depth bio) and personal trainer/fitness instructor experience. His own injuries and medical background make Greg sympathetic and knowledgeable about student’s issues and he is always available after class for a chat and advice.

Students are encouraged to progress at their own pace, rest when needed and to even stop for a cup of tea if necessary!
